Description
Heavy Duty Metal Firewall Grommet 10 Gauge — Fits 10, 12, 14 & 16 AWG | IP68 Waterproof Car Audio Cable Passthrough
If you’ve ever had a plastic snap grommet crack during install, or a rubber grommet quietly pull out and leave your speaker or power wire chafing against sharp sheet metal — this Metal Firewall Grommet 10 Gauge is the upgrade you’ve been looking for.
After years of car audio installs, we found that conventional plastic firewall grommets are fragile, brittle under heat, and often break before the job is even done. Rubber grommets are better, but they still allow annoying air leaks into the cab, let water sneak in during pressure washing, and can silently pull out if the cable is nudged. Neither solution was good enough.
That’s why we developed The Perfect Metal Firewall Grommet.
Why This Metal Firewall Grommet Is Different
This 10-16 Gauge car audio firewall bushing features a nickel-plated brass body, polyamide compression bushing, and dual nitrile rubber seals — engineered to create a genuinely airtight, waterproof, dustproof, and vibration-resistant cable passthrough. It carries an IP68 rating for dust and water protection, and an operating temperature range of -40°F to 220°F (-40°C to 104°C), with a maximum short-term rating of 250°F (120°C).
We’ve never seen one fail. Not once.
Metal vs. Plastic — There Is No Comparison
Take one look at the difference and it says everything. The cheap plastic PG-style grommets you find on Amazon have short threads, a basic single seal, and a body that will crack under engine heat or vibration over time. Our Metal Firewall Grommet 10 Gauge features a premium nickel-plated brass body with a double hex wrench-friendly design, extra-long threaded barrel for a stronger grip across a wider range of material thicknesses, and double nitrile rubber washers for superior sealing and vibration resistance. It’s not even close.
- ❌ Theirs: Plastic body · Short threads · Basic single seal · Less durable
- ✅ Ours: Nickel-plated brass · Extra-long threads · Double seal · Built to last
Adjusts to Fit Many Brands of 10-16 Gauge Wire
One of the biggest headaches with car audio installs is that cable jacket thickness varies significantly between brands — the same 10 or 12 Gauge wire from two different manufacturers can have very different outside diameters. That’s why this Metal Firewall Grommet 10 Gauge features a compression-style seal that adjusts to fit your exact cable OD anywhere from 1/8″ to 1/4″. Simply loosen the compression cap for a larger opening during installation (expanded state), then hand-tighten it down for a tight, secure, weatherproof seal around your specific cable (compressed state). No guessing. No gaps.

More Than Just a Speaker Wire Grommet
This Metal Firewall Grommet 10 Gauge works for far more than just speaker wire. Run zip wire, remote turn-on wire, RCA signal cables, or bundle multiple wires through a single clean hole for a factory-stock appearance. It can also be mounted in speaker boxes and enclosures for a professional finish. Installs in metal, plastic, or wood surfaces up to 9/16″ thick.
Also available in: 0 AWG, 4 AWG, 6 AWG, and 8 AWG.
Choosing the Right Cutting Tool
Drilling a clean hole is just as important as the grommet itself — a rough or oversized hole will compromise your seal. Here’s what we recommend for your Metal Firewall Grommet 10 Gauge 1/2″ hole (tools not included):
- Step Drill Bit — The best choice for this size. A standard step drill bit easily reaches 1/2″ and creates smooth, precise holes in thin sheet metal.
- Hole Saw (1/2″ / 13mm) — Works well for thicker panels and wood enclosures where a step drill may struggle.
- Knockout Punch — Creates the cleanest, most burr-free hole possible. Best when you have access to both sides of the panel, such as in speaker boxes or enclosures.
Pro Tip: Always confirm your step drill or hole saw reaches 1/2″ (13mm) before you start — that’s the required hole size for this Metal Firewall Grommet 10-16 Gauge.
Easy 7-Step Installation
- Test-fit the Metal Firewall Grommet 10-16 Gauge on your cable BEFORE drilling — jacket thickness varies by brand
- Mark and drill the correct size hole (1/2″ / 13mm)
- Check the back side of the firewall for wires, hoses, or brake lines before drilling
- Slide the first rubber washer seal onto the bushing threads
- Insert bushing through the hole and place the second washer seal on the opposite side
- Thread the mounting nut by hand — do not overtighten
- Route your 10-16 Gauge wire through and hand-tighten the compression cap until the seal compresses snugly
Pro Tip: On steel firewalls, coat any bare metal exposed by drilling to prevent rust. For bundled wires or zip wire, a small amount of silicone sealant around the bundle improves weather resistance even further.
